President Prabowo Attends Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt

Minister of State Prasetyo Hadi, who is also the Presidential Spokesperson of the Republic of Indonesia, explained that the invitation to attend the summit was sudden. President Prabowo is due to return to his homeland on Monday after attending the summit.

Prasetyo said that the invitation was considered important because it related to the continuation of peace talks in Palestine, especially in Gaza. President Prabowo decided to attend to maintain good relations and show Indonesia's commitment to supporting peace.

On the plane bound for Egypt, President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The summit was chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi alongside United States President Donald Trump.

The summit was attended by more than 20 leaders from West Asia and other regions, including Southeast Asia. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also scheduled to attend the summit in person.

The conference aims to end the war in Gaza and realize peace and stability in the Middle East. President Trump earlier announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the initial stages of a U.S.-drafted peace plan to reach a cease-fire in Gaza.

The plan includes the release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. The second phase of the plan involves the establishment of a new governance mechanism in Gaza without the participation of Hamas and the establishment of a new security force.
